About
Samantha’s practice explores multiple mediums, but what connects them together Is colour. Through the study of colour, the work has become materials-led and rooted in place. From creating pigments with plants, wild clay, minerals and waste material, to exploring the UK & Ireland for stone circles. Concerned with origins, connection and the experience of making. Immersed in the whole cycle of production, from harvesting, to processing the plants and clay that are foraged in Ireland & UK.
It’s no longer about only creating art, but continuing to learn and maintain a craft, to make with our hands. From the moment she forages through to the manual labour of crushing, washing, sieving, levigating, sieving again, grinding, sieving, grind again. The process has taught her the value of materials, the abundance that nature freely gives us, but we no longer value or see. It has connected her to the history of people before us and how they were connected with the world around them. Connected with the seasons, with community and with the value of collective making.
